Is there a conflict of priorities in addressing breed-related health & genetics issues?

Let me start off this topic by saying that there are some real issues of concern about how the politics of breed clubs affects their attitude and receptiveness toward breed health and genetics initiatives. One way of looking at it is that the people in power were successful under a certain set of rules and assumptions, and any change to those rules tends to favor others. Another way of looking at it is that a frank assessment and investigation of issues related to genetics will almost inevitably lead to the conclusion that dogs related to affected specimens should be selected against. And we often find influential breeders concerned about the effect of such intentional discrimination on their established lines.

So this topic is an invitation for breeders to express how this is related to their breed(s). I.e. - Have these political influences shown up in your breed, and in what way? We want to produce a catalog of instances, to document the extent of this concern.

I am working on a more detailed article about this issue, which will be linked here when completed.
